Maltazar

Postby andy on 31 Jul 2010, 13:48

So I saw the Luc Besson animated childeren's movie Arthur and the minimoys this week.
Well, to be honest: it bored me quite a bit the first time so I fell asleep. A few days later I pressed forward to the scenes in which Maltazar - with Lou's voice - appears.

Sadly, that didn't do much to change the overall boringness of this film.
While I generally like listening to Lou's voice, I don't think it worked particularly well in this movie.
Malatzar is supposed to be the story's villain, but Lou's voice lacks the dynamics to make him scary.
He sounds more than an old man, an effect that is increased by the fact that in his most important scene he starts telling a boring story for more than 5 minutes - that's ages in childeren's movies.

Anybody else seen it?

You're not missing anything.
As I said: it's really rather boring - both the entire film which simply fails to bring forth a single memorable charackter - and Lou's contribution to it.

I saw Minimoys 2 ... but in French.
I was very disappointed by the film itself ... but I would love to see it in English in order to hear Lou too ... (that big enourmous laughter at the end of the film ...)

Lou has done the 3 as it seems (and Iggy Pop's there too) ... I hope it will be a bit less boring ...

I have the first movie, of Arthur.
I bought it because Bowie does a voice for the film. Haven't seen it yet.
Did not know Lou and Iggy do voices a well.
Now I really want to watch it :)

I checked IMDB Maltazar is played by Bowie in the first movie and by Lou Reed in the second one.

I hope the first movie is less boring then the second one you saw Andy.

Ooh well, my biggest Lou-let-down in recent years was his vocal contribution to an animated movie ... things could be much worse, right!?
